Assistant Vice President for Marketing Communications
Janie oversees the work of the Communications office including internal communications, media relations, social media, Stetson Today, Stetson University Magazine and web editing. In addition, she oversees the Events office.
As AVP, Janie is responsible for increasing visibility of Stetson and enhancing the university's image by publicizing people and programs that best illustrate the Stetson brand. In addition to Communications and Events, she serves on the university's Emergency Management Team, providing communications counsel and guiding emergency communications. Janie also serves on the university's Environmental Working Group.
Janie earned a Master of Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana State University. Prior to Stetson, she worked at the AAA national office in Heathrow, Florida, in social media and public relations. While there, she launched AAA's social media sites on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, Instagram and other social media outlets. Janie was a national spokesperson for AAA and won a Silver Anvil from the Public Relations Society of America (P.R.S.A.) for her work there. Before joining AAA, Janie was a reporter and editor for newspapers and magazines and wrote frequently about travel and golf.
A native of Florida, Janie enjoys swimming in the ocean, golf, movies and spending time with her husband and family.
Director of Internal Communications/Editor, Stetson Today
Cory Lancaster has been a journalist for 30 years, working as a reporter for The Orlando Sentinel and as managing editor of The Daytona Beach News-Journal. She has won several journalism awards for investigative reporting and featuring writing and also served as President of the Florida Society of News Editors.
Lancaster has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Florida and a master's degree from Rollins College in Winter Park. She and her husband live in DeLand with their teenage son.
Social Media and Interactive Marketing Manager
Kate joined Stetson University in 2016 and became a member of the Marketing Department in early 2018. As the Social Media and Interactive Marketing Manager, Kate oversees all of the University's social networks and is responsible for the content generation and engagement for each platform, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube and Google+. Additionally, as the Social Media Manager, she is available to assist and train department representatives across campus on their social networking practices.
Kate was born and raised in New Smyrna Beach and loves everything the area has to offer, so much so that she has been a volunteer on a local board in town since 2011. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in supervision and management from Daytona State College in 2014. Kate can be found spending every free minute with her husband and their large families, spending the day at a theme park or baking up a fresh batch of sweet treats. If she had to choose just one, Kate would pick Twitter as her favorite social network and urges everyone to remember: what happens on social media stays on Google forever!
Editor, Stetson University Magazine
Michael Candelaria is a veteran of the magazine industry in Central Florida, having served as a writer and editor for numerous publications. Those publications range from city/regional and business magazines to education, travel/leisure and sports magazines. He was the publisher of FORWARD Florida magazine, editor of Orlando magazine and the 1996 president of the Florida Magazine Association.
He is well-known in the Central Florida community, working with high-profile organizations such as the Central Florida Partnership, Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce, Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission and Visit Orlando. He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida.
