Scholarships

The Office of Student Financial Planning is committed to helping make higher education affordable to our students. This aid complements state and federal funds available to students.

Keep in mind that though we've listed some scholarships below, there are many other scholarship opportunities out there. We encourage you to search the Internet for opportunities and apply to any to which you qualify.

Merit-Based Scholarships

Merit-Based

These scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the high school record, standardized testing and community service. These awards are given to incoming first-year students and will cover the next four years. The scholarships can range from $10,000 to full tuition. Eligibility for these awards is decided by the admissions committee upon completion of your application.

  • Presidential Scholarship (Up to $35,000)
  • Faculty Scholarship (Up to $31,000)
  • Dean's Scholarship (Up to $26,000)
  • Hatter Scholarship (Up to $22,000)
  • Transfer Dean's Scholarship (Up to $24,000)

Transfer Scholarships

Students who transfer to Stetson University are eligible for this award. This scholarship can range from $10,000 - $24,000 yearly. Recipients of this award receive it for a specified number of semesters, usually the length of their studies before graduation.

Bright Futures

For qualifying Florida high school graduates, there are opportunities for state scholarship funding. Stetson accepts two levels of Bright Futures, the Florida Academic Scholar and Florida Medallion Scholar. Based on the 2018-2019 school year, the Florida Academic Scholarship pays $211 per credit hour and the Florida Medallion Scholarship pays $158 per credit hour.

Talent Scholarships

Music

Students who qualify for music scholarships include music majors, music minors and non-music majors participating in the School of Music. The award amounts vary and are dependent on an audition. Please contact the School of Music admission recruiter at 800-688-0101 ext. 8975 to schedule an audition or see the music admissions page.

Athletic

Athletic scholarships are extremely competitive and are provided for a variety of sports. Interested students should contact a coach or the Department of Athletics for additional information.

Sullivan Writing Scholarship

The Sullivan Writing Scholarship Program at Stetson University assists academically qualified students with strong writing skills to attend the university. Preference is given to English majors or English-Creative Writing minors with demonstrated strengths in creative writing who possess a verbal SAT score of 600 and a high school GPA of 3.0. This scholarship ranges from $3,000 - $6,000 annually. To apply, complete the below application by November 1st.

Lawson Scholarship

The Lawson Scholarship at Stetson University assists academically qualified students. Each scholarship provides up to $6,250 on an annual basis. Preference is given to student's in Philosophy or related majors with demonstrated interest in community service and a commitment to principled citizenship. These students must possess an SAT score of 1300 or ACT score of at least 29, a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher and rank in the top 10 percent of the graduating class. Stetson University Values Fellows Scholarships

The Values Scholarships are designed to enhance the way Stetson lives our values and to assist in recruiting and retaining the best-fit students for Stetson. Each scholarship will provide $2,500 on an annual basis. To apply, complete the below application by February 15th.

Arts for Life! College Matching Program

Winners of the Arts for Life! $1,000 cash award will be automatically eligible to receive a matching in-kind scholarship worth $1,000 once committed to attend Stetson University.

Service Scholarships

Bonner Scholarship

Bonner Scholars and Leaders receive financial assistance and scholarships from Stetson University and the Bonner Foundation. Strong candidates will have a track record of involvement and leadership in addressing major areas of social justice, including poverty, education, homelessness and civil rights. As an expectation of this scholarship, these students commit eight hours per week to a service project or agency of their choice and must continue with that service relationship throughout their Stetson University career. Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholars Program

The Whitehead Scholars program is a donor-funded, need-based scholarship community giving young women the opportunity to deepen and integrate their education through required work and service along with guided goal-setting and reflection by academic year. The purpose of this program at Stetson is to prepare students who will strive, in the spirit of Mrs. Whitehead, to improve the communities in which they live, work and serve. Along with work and service, students participate in activities on campus and one-on-one meetings with the Coordinator that encourage them to think of their education with a holistic perspective, supporting students in a four-year process of self-appraisal. Consistent with in the institution-wide mission, it is also the goal of the Whitehead Scholars to make an excellent private liberal-arts education accessible to talented students from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds. 

Funds awarded through donor-funded scholarships either partially or wholly fund a merit award, underwriting the amount of any Stetson scholarship on a dollar-for-dollar basis based on fund restrictions and do not change the total amount of financial aid awarded.

Citizenship Grant

In rewarding achievement in all areas of endeavor, the university seeks to award students who will enrich our community of learners as they embody the high value we place on service and commitment to both academics and/or all other areas of endeavor. Special consideration will be given to students who demonstrate focused activity and effort and/or leadership that has impacted their classmates, schools, workplaces or communities. Consideration will also be given to applicants who have demonstrated resilience in the face of hardships, disability, difficult personal situations or other disadvantages. While review for this award is accomplished during the admissions process and from the admissions records submitted, to apply for additional consideration, submit a resume or list of accomplishments and a short, no more than 250-word essay describing your accomplishments. These awards are highly competitive and are in very limited supply. For further information, contact your admissions recruiter at (800) 688-0101.

Citizenship awards recognize students in any one or more of the following categories:

  • Significant participation in community service, civic participation or any other extracurricular activities
  • Work experience and entrepreneurship
  • Resilience in the face of hardship or disadvantage
  • Promoting equity and understanding
  • Outstanding leadership
  • Distinction in the arts, humanities or sciences

Stetson Scholarships

J. Ollie Edmunds Distinguished Scholarship

This is an academically competitive scholarship which pays all expenses for students who exhibit top academic and personal leadership potential. It includes a summer internship stipend between the sophomore and junior year, which can be transferred to a study abroad program. In order to qualify, you must have a high school GPA of 3.5 or above, combined SAT score of at least 1350 (critical reading and math) or an ACT composite score of at least 30. Travel Scholarship

The travel scholarship is a one-time $1,000 scholarship awarded to first-year or transfer, out-of-state students who are accepted and visit Stetson University for an official admissions visit by April 13, 2019. Apply to Stetson University and schedule a visit. Athletes who receive an athletic grant-in-aid are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Any athlete in an equivalency sport with a signed Grant in Aid is not eligible to receive this scholarship.

Legacy Scholarship

An undergraduate applicant to Stetson University is considered to have legacy status and eligible for the legacy award if a member of the applicant's family is currently enrolled or attended and graduated from any branch of Stetson (including the graduate and/or law school). Family is defined as a brother, sister, parent, stepparent, grandparent, aunt, uncle and/ or legal guardian. This scholarship is for $1,000 per academic year and will be offered for 4 years, or undergraduate graduation, whichever is first. Eligible students must have applied and have been accepted by February 15th. Students are only eligible to apply prior to their first semester at Stetson. Any student-athlete who will be receiving athletic aid is not eligible for this scholarship. Any athlete in an equivalency sport with a signed Grant in Aid is not eligible to receive this scholarship.

HATS Program Scholarship

Stetson University provides a scholarship for students who participate in the Stetson HATS program prior to attending Stetson as a full-time student. This scholarship will be added to your student account automatically and will be offered for 4 years, or undergraduate graduation, whichever is first. Students are only eligible to apply prior to their first semester at Stetson. Any student-athlete who will be receiving athletic aid is not eligible for this scholarship. Any athlete in an equivalency sport with a signed Grant in Aid is not eligible to receive this scholarship.

Stetson Access Grant

The Stetson Access Grant supplements full tuition for incoming male students from underrepresented backgrounds, including, but not limited to: race, ethnic group, socioeconomic group, and nationality. This grant includes all federal, state, and institutional awards. The FAFSA is also required for consideration. In order to apply for this scholarship, please submit an essay of no more than 500 words to the Office of Admissions at admissions@stetson.edu answering: How will Stetson make you significant? Remember to include your name, Stetson ID and name of the scholarship in your submission.

Stetson Tuition Assistance Grant

The Stetson Tuition Assistance Grant supplements full tuition for incoming students who qualify for the Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholars Award and the Pell Grant. The FAFSA is required for consideration. Bright Futures applications must be submitted through the high school application process. This grant includes federal, state and institutional awards. The Stetson Tuition Assistance Grant is applied based off of information available to Stetson regarding the Bright Futures award and will be updated through the eligibility process determined by the Florida Office of Student Financial Aid during the summer prior to enrollment. Any athlete in an equivalency sport with a signed Grant in Aid is not eligible to receive this scholarship.

Student Life Scholarships

Scholarships offered to first-year and transfer students from student life departments across campus. Each scholarship requires the student to submit an application.

Raise Micro-Scholarships

Stetson partnered with Raise.me so students can easily earn scholarships worth hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of dollars each time students achieve something important in high school. Global Citizen Scholarship

The Global Citizen Scholarship is an academically competitive scholarship for incoming international undergraduate students. This scholarship offers full tuition scholarship for four years to students who exhibit top academic potential and who display characteristics of a global citizen. Interested students must have at least a 3.5 equivalent GPA and submit a 500 word or less essay to admissions@stetson.edu or through your status page on the question – How will your education prepare you to be a global citizen?

Students eligible to apply must be from one of the following regions:

  • Americas – Andes, Southern Cone
  • Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia
  • Sub-Saharan Africa – East and Southern

Business School Foundation Honors Scholar Award

The Business School Foundation Honor Scholar Award was created to recognize an incoming student planning on majoring in a business related field through the School of Business. This nationally competitive award supplements up to full tuition for four years or undergraduate graduation, whichever comes first. The recipient of the scholarship will also be invited to join the Stetson University Honors Program and the Honors Business Experience Cohort. Interested students should meet the criteria below and submit a 500 word or less essay to admissions@stetson.edu or through your status page on the question – How do you define innovation?

To be considered, students must submit the following materials by assigned deadlines:

  • Completed university application
  • 1300 SAT or 30 ACT score
  • 3.5 weighted GPA

Donor-Funded Scholarships

Students who are eligible for Stetson University Scholarships and Grants may also be eligible to receive a named endowed scholarship. Especially meaningful, named scholarships are those made possible by the generosity of alumni and other Stetson University friends. Some donors are Stetson alumni, who were themselves the beneficiaries of student aid. An endowed scholarship can establish a direct connection between you and the donor; most donors welcome the opportunity to meet or correspond with the students who receive their awards. Note that:

  • If selected for a donor-funded scholarship, the recipient agrees to annually write thank you notes, complete an online profile, and attend the Benefactor Luncheon, if invited.
  • Scholarships are awarded to students who meet the criteria specific to each fund.
  • You are automatically considered for these funds when you apply for financial aid. Selection is based on a student’s match with a donor’s criteria. There is no separate application process.
  • Funds awarded through donor-funded scholarships either partially or wholly fund a merit award, underwriting the amount of any Stetson scholarship on a dollar-for-dollar basis based on fund restrictions.
  • Most named endowed scholarships do not change the total amount of financial aid awarded.

Study Abroad Scholarships

» Application for all Stetson Study Abroad Scholarships

Global Awareness Study Abroad Fund

The purpose of the scholarship is to enable undergraduate students in good academic standing to participate in Stetson University-approved international study abroad programs, which are a primary mechanism for transformative intercultural learning and promote global awareness and understanding.

Elrod-Berge Study Abroad Travel Endowed Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide funding to students studying abroad in Spain or France to cover expenses associated with the study abroad program such as travel, room, and board. Scholarship awards will be made to students majoring in Spanish or French, with preference to students with financial need.

Ken Ziesenheim Endowed Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students from Stetson University’s School of Business Administration to study in central Europe (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, or Switzerland) or to assist academically qualified students from those European countries to attend Stetson University’s School of Business Administration.

The Corrine Lynch Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage deserving students majoring in the field of foreign languages to participate in the University's Year Abroad Program in their junior year.

Richard & Lilis George Endowment for International Learning

Richard and Lilis George Endowment for International Learning. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide support for students, faculty, departments, and programs to assist with expenses associated with international study abroad and the internationalization of the University’s programs and curriculums.

Ron & Dominique Salamone Piccolo Endowed Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist high-need students with at least a 2.75 grade point average, with preference given to students majoring in math or finance, or participating in Study Abroad. Scholarships are renewable as long as the recipients maintain a 2.75 grade point average.

David & Leighan Rinker Endowment for International Travel

The purpose of this endowment is to provide financial support to full-time students for international travel. An endowed scholarship fund provides financial support that will enable more and more students to access transformational international learning opportunities, particularly programs led by Stetson faculty.

Rinker Field Experience Endowed Fund

The purpose of this scholarship is to support the Rinker Guatemala/Nicaragua Field Experience internship and the Rinker Scholarship for Travel Courses in Religious Studies.
