Direct Loan Entrance Counseling

Completion of Entrance Counseling is mandated by the U.S. Department of Education when receiving federal loans. You can complete Entrance Counseling by logging in to www.studentloans.gov. More detailed instructions are below.

To complete entrance counseling:

  1. Login to www.studentloans.gov (You will need your FSA ID)
  2. Select "Complete Counseling" found in the left navigation bar
  3. Select "Entrance Counseling" under "Choose Counseling Type"
  4. Select the school you want to notify of counseling completion (Stetson University)
  5. Select "Student Type" (Undergraduate or Graduate/Professional)

Direct Loan Exit Counseling

Completion of Exit Counseling is mandated by the U.S. Department of Education when receiving federal loans. You can complete Exit Counseling by logging in to www.studentloans.gov. More detailed instructions are below.

To complete exit counseling:

  1. Login to www.studentloans.gov (You will need your FSA ID)
  2. Select "Complete Counseling" found in the left navigation bar
  3. Select "Exit Counseling" under "Choose Counseling Type"
  4. Select the school you want to notify of counseling completion (Stetson University)

FAFSA Application

The Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA) is required for federal financial aid (Direct Loans, Pell Grants, etc.) To complete your FAFSA go to www.FAFSA.gov.

FAFSA Signature

Your FAFSA has not been officially signed. To sign your application electronically, go to www.FAFSA.gov. Click the "Login" button and the click the "Provide Signatures" button. You will need your FSA ID. If you do not have an FSA ID or have forgotten it, you can request one at www.fsaid.ed.gov.

Florida Residency Proof (Two forms of ID)

Mandatory to receive EASE. We must have at least two forms of proof of residency for the parent of a dependent student or the student if considered independent. Listed below are acceptable documents for verifying proof of residency. At least one of the documents must be from the first tier; those documents listed in the second tier may be used in conjunction with one document from the first tier.

First Tier

  • Florida Driver License or State of Florida identification card
  • Florida voter registration card
  • Proof of permanent full-time employment in Florida
  • Proof of purchase of a permanent home in Florida that is occupied as the primary residence of the claimant
  • Student transcripts from a Florida high school for multiple years, if earned within the past 12 months
  • Benefit histories from Florida agencies or public assistance programs
  • Florida vehicle registration card
  • Proof of a homestead exemption in Florida

Second Tier

  • A Florida professional or occupational license
  • Florida incorporation
  • Proof of membership in a Florida-based charitable or professional organization
  • Utility bills and proof of 12 consecutive months of payments
  • Lease agreement and proof of 12 consecutive months of payment
  • State or court documents evidencing legal ties to Florida
  • Declaration of domicile in Florida

Identity and Statement of Education Purpose

Please come to the Office of Student Financial Planning in the One Stop (Rinker Welcome Center) to complete this requirement. You must bring a government-provided ID card.

Independency Proof

Please submit a statement detailing your circumstance and include any supportive documentations. Please send this and any questions to finaid@stetson.edu.

Parent Tax Transcript

The funding of your award is currently in an estimated status because your FAFSA was selected by the Federal Processor for Verification. This process requires you to provide our office with a copy of your Tax Return Data from EITHER an official IRS Tax Return Transcript or use of the IRS Data Retrieval Tool through the FAFSA. To upload these documents please visit: https://www.verificationgateway.org:8443/inceptia/#/login

  • Order your Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS online. There you can request a PDF version instantaneously. Once you have the transcript, you upload it to Verification Gateway.
  • To order online, visit www.irs.gov/transcript.
    1. Click Get Transcript Online or Get Transcript by Mail.
    2. Provide the requested identifier information.
    3. Select Return Transcript for tax year 2016.
    4. Once you print or receive your transcript, create a PDF document or image of your tax return transcript and upload the document.

  • If you prefer to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) through your FAFSA, log in to your FAFSA and when prompted select the option “IRS Data Retrieval.” If eligible you will be prompted to utilize the IRS DRT during the section of questions regarding your income information and the process will send us your tax information. It is important to sign, save, and submit the adjusted FAFSA. Changing any data elements subsequent to the successful transfer of your 2015 tax data may result in our inability to use the submission for purposes of completing the verification process. The IRS DRT is not available to all tax filers and those who are unable to use this tool should request their tax transcripts through the www.irs.gov.

Parent W2

The funding of your award is currently in an estimated status because your FAFSA was selected by the Federal Processor for Verification. This process requires you to provide our office with a copy of any W2 or Schedule C forms containing information reflected on your tax filing.

Master Promissory Note (MPN)

A Master Promissory Note is required to disburse your loans. You will need to complete this form at www.studentloans.gov

To complete MPN:

  1. Login to www.studentloans.gov (You will need your FSA ID)
  2. Select "Complete Loan Agreement (Master Promissory Note)" found in the left navigation bar
  3. Select "Start" under the type of loan you received
  4. Select the school you want to notify of counseling completion (Stetson University)

Satisfactory Academic Progress

Please schedule a meeting with your Financial Aid Counselor by e-mailing finaid@stetson.edu with your availability.

Selective Service Card

As a male U.S. Citizen, age 18-25, you must register for Selective Service in order to receive any federal or state funding. Register here: https://www.sss.gov/regver/wfregistration.aspx. Once you have registered, notify the Office of Student Financial Planning by e-mailing finaid@stetson.edu. The office will then certify this on the national database.

Student Tax Transcript

This process requires you to provide our office with a copy of your 2015 Tax Return Data from either an official  IRS Tax Return Transcript or use of the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (currently unavailable) through the FAFSA.

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education

You will need to complete your TEACH grant application and TEACH Grant counseling. Once completed, please contact the Office of Student Financial Planning at finaid@stetson.edu so your application can be processed.

Unaccompanied Minor Status

Please submit a statement detailing your circumstance and include any supportive documentations. Please send this and any questions to finaid@stetson.edu.

Verification of Scholarship Income Received

When completing your FAFSA, you included scholarship income. Please submit your 1098-T tax form to the Office of Student Financial Planning. If your scholarship funding came from Stetson, you can find this form by logging into your MyStetson account. Click on your "One Stop" tab. You will then see "Tax Notification" listed under the "My Account" box. You will find your tax forms there.

VA Certificate of Eligibility

Please submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to the Office of Student Financial Planning. Please e-mail these documents to finaid@stetson.edu or fax them to 386-822-7126. Please include your SUID number when sending documents.

Veterans Affairs Status Discrepancy

Please submit a copy of your Veteran Affairs status to the Office of Student Financial Planning. Please e-mail these documents to finaid@stetson.edu or fax them to 386-822-7126. Please include your SUID number when sending documents.
