Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement
Rebecca Thomas joined Stetson University's Office of Development and Alumni Engagement team spring of 2016 as the assistant director of sustainable giving. In her role, Rebecca worked to develop relationships between students and alumni and served as a resource for the student body regarding alumni, campus, and philanthropic activities. She also worked to achieve an increased sense of school spirit among students by developing programs designed to engage students in the life of the university.
In May 2020, Rebecca transitioned into her current role director of alumni and parent engagement, where she shares her passion for Stetson with alumni from across the state and the country. Working primarily on the office’s strategic vision and developing and implementing comprehensive programming designed to create life-long connections for alumni with the university and each other.
Rebecca received her bachelor's degree in education in 2010 and received her master's degree in sport and exercise science in 2012 from the University of Central Florida. She currently holds a certification in nonprofit management from Rollins College Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership and a certification in hospitality and event management from the University of Central Florida's Rosen College of Hospitality Management.
Amy Dedes '04
Associate Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement
Amy joined the Office of Alumni Engagement in the fall of 2008 as an administrative secretary before becoming assistant director. Promoted to associate director in October 2014, Amy now manages the planning of alumni events across the country, including district get-togethers for alumni and current parents, recruitment events for prospective students, on-campus Alumni Board meetings and Homecoming. She also works on programming to help increase student and alumni engagement and advises the Student Alumni Association. Her work on Homecoming 2012 earned a CASE Award for Special Merit in Alumni Programs.
Amy earned her BA in Elementary Education from Stetson in 2004. She went on to earn her MS from Nova Southeastern University before returning to Stetson as a staff member. Amy has a love for Stetson that shows in her work with students and alumni. She was awarded the 2014 Spirit of Stetson Award at the annual employee recognition banquet. Outside of work, she volunteers with her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, and spends time with her husband, John, also a Stetson graduate, and their young children, Adonis and Ava.
Alex Herron '16
Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement
Alex joined the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement in the fall of 2019, transitioning over from the Stetson Athletic Department. Alex served as lead game administrator for Stetson athletic events (including conference and NCAA tournaments) and also oversaw all aspects of event management for Stetson's 18 athletic programs. This included facility and practice scheduling, coordination with all visiting teams and officials and supervision of an athletics support staff of about 100 people.
With the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement, Alex now develops, leads and manages engagement and programming efforts around affinity groups. He also works with campus partners to deepen these engagement efforts and assist in growing philanthropic and giving initiatives. Alex serves as an official travel representative at off-campus events and provides support for all alumni activities and programs including Alumni Board meetings, Homecoming and Chapter events.
Alex earned his B.BA in Sport Business from Stetson in 2016 and worked in the Athletic Department as a volunteer and intern throughout his time as a student. He was also a member of the Stetson Sport Business Association. Alex left the DeLand area after graduating for positions with the Washington Nationals and then the Miami Dolphins, before returning to Stetson in early 2018. Alex has a passion for Stetson and enjoys working and interacting with all members of the Stetson Community.
Student and Young Alumni Programs Coordinator
Olivia joined Stetson University in the fall of 2019. She oversees the student organization, Green, White & YOU, which serves as the student alumni association and student philanthropy group. The organization aims to foster a positive on-campus experience toward philanthropic culture, education and participation. In addition to her work with the student alumni association, she also leads life-stage engagement initiatives to increase engagement among students, transitioning seniors and first-year alumni, and recent alumni. Olivia was born and raised in Deland. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2018 with a bachelor's in public relations. After graduation, she completed a year of service through AmeriCorps VISTA with Starkville Habitat for Humanity in Mississippi.
Cathy provides administrative support to the Office of Alumni Engagement. She supports special events held during the year across the country by Alumni Association Board members and traveling staff members.
Cathy came to Stetson in December 2009 and has graduated two daughters/Hatters.
