Welcome to the New Hatter Challenge, an exhilarating program exclusively tailored for first-time college students, proudly brought to you by Academic Success! As a fresh face on campus, this unique initiative is designed to empower you with the tools you need to navigate the exciting world of higher education!
What is the New Hatter Challenge?
The New Hatter Challenge is comprised of a set of objectives you complete for points. The objectives were created to align with positive habits for success and are likely items you are already doing! If you are studying, receiving tutoring, attending cultural credit events... you are already completing the New Hatter Challenge objectives! Why not win amazing prizes while you're at it?!

Getting Started
Eligibility
In order to participate in this challenge, and win prizes, you must meet the following criteria:
- Participants must be a first-time college student
- Participants must be a degree-seeking students, enrolled at Stetson University
- Participants must be enrolled in a part-time or full-time schedule
- Participants must have a good student conduct standing
Registration
In order to participate in the New Hatter Challenge, participants must fill out the registration form.
Official Rules and Resources
Scoring System/Points
In order to win prizes for your academic efforts you must complete objectives, broken down into categories. Upon the completion of an objective, you will be awarded the points associated with the objective. You can earn bonus points by completing each objective in a specific category.
Academic Success
- Meet with a Success Coach in the Academic Success Department (5 Points)
- Complete your Advising Lab 101 on Webcourses (10 Points)
- Bring a paper/essay for review at the Writing Center (15 Points)
- Completion Bonus: Complete the entirety of these objectives to receive an additional 10 points.
BREAKDOWN: In order to earn points in Academic Success, you must complete specific objectives related to academic outcomes. Firstly, you must attend a meeting with a Success Coach, from the Academic Success Department. Upon completion of this objective, you will receive 5 points. Secondly, you must complete your online Webcourses Advising Lab module. Upon completion of this objective, you will receive 10 points. Finally, you must bring one of your papers to the Writing Center for review. Upon completing this objective, you will receive 15 points. You DO NOT have to complete these objectives in order. You can complete them in any order you wish and will still receive the points associated with the objective. If you complete this section in its entirety, you will receive a 10-point bonus.
Professional Development
- Meet with A Career Peer in Career and Professional Development (5 points)
- Attend the Internship and Career Expo (10 points)
- Obtain a total of 3 Cultural Credits (15 points)
- Completion Bonus: Complete the entirety of these objectives to receive an additional 10 points.
BREAKDOWN: In order to earn points in Professional Development, you must complete specific objectives related to career outcomes. Firstly, you must attend a meeting with a Career Peer, from Career and Professional Development. Upon completion of this objective, you will receive 5 points. Secondly, you must attend the Fall Internship and Career Expo and sign in for credit. Upon completion of this objective, you will receive 10 points. Finally, you must log at least 3 Cultural Credit events. You can attend more cultural credit events but only need 3 to qualify. Additionally, there is no awarding of partial credits for not meeting the 3 required cultural credits. Upon completing the entirety of this objective, you will receive 15 points. You DO NOT have to complete these objectives in order. You can complete them in any order you wish and will still receive the points associated with the objective. If you complete this section in its entirety, you will receive a 10-point bonus.
Tutoring and SPI
- Attend a full Tutoring or SPI session (2 points)
- Maximum Points Attainable: 30 points
- Completion Bonus: When you reach the max amount of points attainable, you will receive a one-time 10-point bonus.
BREAKDOWN: In order to earn points in Tutoring and SPI, you must complete sessions with the Academic Success department and sign in for them for credit. For each tutoring or SPI session, you will earn 2 points. This section is limited to 30 points maximum. If you achieve the maximum points attainable, you will receive a 10-point bonus. However, any additional tutoring/SPI sessions will not count for additional points.
Study Hours
- Study in the Hollis Family Student Success Center for 2 hours (1 point)
- Maximum Points Attainable: 30 points
- Completion Bonus: When you reach the max amount of points attainable, you will receive a one-time 10-point bonus.
BREAKDOWN: In order to earn points in Study Hours, you must log in to the Hollis Family Student Success Center for study hours. The login is located on a tablet at the front desk of our location. For every 2 study hours, you will earn 1 point. This section is limited to 30 points maximum. If you achieve the maximum points attainable, you will receive a 10-point bonus. However, any additional study hours will not count for additional points.

Complete the Hatter Crash Course on your web courses to receive a 3-point bonus!
Winning
In order to win the associated prizes, participants must maintain the eligibility requirements listed above. At any point during the competition, if a participant cannot maintain their eligibility, they will be disqualified.
As you progress through each prize tier, you will be awarded the associated prize. At the end of the competition, winners of the Gold Tier will also receive prizes from the Silver and Bronze tier. Winners of the Silver Tier will also receive prizes from the Bronze Tier.
In addition to the exclusive Stetson University merchandise, students from the Gold Tier will also be invited to a winner-only celebration event. This will be a casual celebration event with food and tons of games to take a break from all the hard work from the semester!
