AT LEAST 116 RELIGIOUS STRUCTURES DESTROYED AS RESULT OF R.F. ATTACKS
The aggressive attack by Russian troops has destroyed Christian church buildings and other sacred sites of religious communities of Ukraine. Since 24 February, at least 116 structures of religious significance (not counting adjacent buildings) have been destroyed already in at least 13 oblasts of Ukraine: Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhitomir, Zaporozhe, Luhansk, Lvov, Nikolaevsk, Odessa, Sumy, Kharkov, Kherson, and Chernigov. This is described in an account by the Ukrainian State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience.
The overwhelming majority of these (91 out of 116) are Orthodox church buildings. Mosques, synagogues, Catholic and protestant churches, religious educational institutions, and important administrative buildings of religious organization also have been subject to destruction.
As of today, the greatest number of buildings destroyed as a consequence of the R.F.'s invasion into Ukraine has been located in the oblasts of Donetsk, Kiev, and Kharkov (at least 20 in each of them). Consequently, as of today more than half of all recorded cases of damage to sacred structures of Ukraine have been in these three oblasts. (tr. by PDS, posted 9 May 2022)
