MOSCOW EXTREMELY NEGATIVE TO DECISION TO INTRODUCE INTO VERKHOVNA RADA DRAFT LAW ON BAN OF U.P.Ts.
Interfax-Religiia, 30 March 2022
The Kremlin has a negative attitude toward the introduction into the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of a draft law prohibiting the activity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UPTs).
"Extremely negative (attitude)," the Russian president's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, declared to journalists on Wednesday.
At the same time he stressed that this should not in any way be linked with the course of the next round of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations held on Tuesday in Istanbul.
"Nobody has declared that the parties (to negotiations) have made progress. Who said that the sides have made progress?" the press secretary of the head of state asked.
Previously the Moscow patriarchate warned deputies of the Ukrainian parliament about the possibility of widespread conflict with unpredictable consequences if the law were adopted forbidding the activity of religious organizations with a center in Russia. . . .
