VIOLENCE AGAINST UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH STILL BEING PREPARED IN KIEV—PUTIN
Interfax-Religiia, 21 February 2022
Kiev is continuing to persecute parishioners and clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, declares Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Violence against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate is still being prepared in Kiev," he said in an appeal to citizens of Russia.
Putin emphasized that this is not emotional but is based on an assessment of documents.
"Ukrainian authorities have cynically transformed the tragedy of the church schism into an instrument of state policy. The current leadership of the country has not reacted to the request from citizens of Ukraine to rescind the laws infringing the rights of believers," he continued.
"What is more, new draft laws have been registered in the parliament directed against the clergy and millions of parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate," Putin said. (tr. by PDS, posted 21 February 2022)
