YOGA INSTRUCTOR CHARGED BECAUSE OF HOLIDAY IN HONOR OF GOD SHIVA IN IZHEVSK
In Izhevsk, charges were drawn up against a yoga instructor, Ekaterina Kalinkina, for illegal missionary activity (article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Violations of Law) for organizing a Hindu holiday of Maha Shivaratri. The woman reported this on VKontakte.
The order opening the case says that Kalinkina posted on VKontakte information about "religious activity connected with the religious holidays of the Hindu deity Shiva and his spouse, Durga, with a notation of the place and time the events will be conducted."
The document says that there are no registered associations of followers of Shiva and Durga on the territory of Udmurtia, and therefore the prosecutor's office concluded that Kalinkina is conducting missionary activity illegally, "for spreading the religious beliefs of the Hindu deity Shiva."
