Ken McCoy
portfolio: introduction

The purpose of this web portfolio is to describe and document my work as a director, actor, producer, and theatre photographer over the past three decades.

In Fall of 1999, I began putting this together with the directing portion, used to support my application for promotion and tenure at Stetson University. At that time, the intent of the supporting narratives was to give some flavor of my creative activity as a director for readers who were not necessarily acquainted with theatrical practice. I have chosen to keep the same language, since it appeals to a wider readership, most especially since I will soon be applying for promotion to full professor.

Most of the color photos of shows I have directed reflect actual staging and lighting composition. I took all of the photographs, with only a few exceptions. The Lend Me A Tenor publicity photo was taken by the Huron Playhouse staff photographer Greg Mayse, although it was set up per my instructions. Likewise, the photos for The Wager were taken by my talented photographer friend Michele Filpi, before I learned how to use a camera. It goes without saying that photos in which I appear as an actor were taken by someone else.
