Nicole M. Rivera, senior voice performance and psychology major at Stetson University, will perform Friday evening, Apr. 1, at 8 p.m., in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

“It is an amazing opportunity to be able to perform in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, especially this being my first experience in Carnegie,” the mezzo-soprano said. “The fast-paced life, that is New York, is something that I find truly exhilarating,” she said. “I was able to perform the role of Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Bavaria, Germany. During the course of the festival, I participated in one of the solo student recitals. This experience led to the opportunity to perform in the last concert of InterHarmony’s concert series in New York.”

Each year, the InterHarmony® International Music Festival (IIMF) founder Misha Quint, cellist, brings together a select group of the best and brightest rising young stars from the festival to play at Carnegie Hall with established performing artists.

“Nicole is a very hardworking student who has surpassed all my expectations as an opera director,” said Russell Franks, visiting assistant professor of voice at Stetson, and voice teacher and opera director to Rivera. “Beneath a mild exterior lies the heart of a passionate performer, an avid story teller and a rich, velvety mezzo voice,” he said.

“Preparing for a concert always takes time, energy and a willingness to dig far beyond the surface of the music,” said Rivera. “I always try to search for new meanings in the pieces that I prepare and find the work to be very rewarding. I would not have been able to achieve any of this without the help of all the faculty in Stetson’s School of Music, but most of all, my opera conductor, Anthony Hose, associate professor of music/orchestra, and collaborative pianist and coach Kristie Born, visiting assistant professor, functional keyboard. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to share this music and my voice with an array of wonderful people at such a prestigious venue.”

Tickets for the concert are $35, and can be purchased online at www.carnegiehall.org, or by calling CarnegieCharge at 212-247-7800. For more information, visit www.interharmony.com.
