Stetson’s Brooke Hutto Named A-Sun Softball Pitcher of the Week

BrookeHutto-590 copyFor the second time this season, Stetson University freshman Brooke Hutto (Auburndale, Fla.) has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Hutto went 4-1 with a 1.25 ERA last week, pitching three complete games and one shutout for the Hatters. On Tuesday, she worked six scoreless innings of relief in Stetson’s 3-2 win over Providence. Wednesday, she tossed all nine innings of a 3-2 loss loss to Seton Hall.

Hutto fired a three-hit shutout in Stetson’s 1-0 win over Bethune-Cookman on Friday, marking her third shutout of the season.  She then won both games for the Hatters on Saturday, throwing a combined 203 pitches on the day. Her performance included a complete game victory over 2015 MAAC Champion Fairfield, and 4.2 scoreless innings of relief in a win over Wagner.  She was later named to the Hatter Classic all-tournament team.

For the season, Hutto (10-2, 1.59 ERA) leads the league and ranks fourth in the NCAA with 10 victories.  She has struck out 44 batters in 79 innings, and opponents are hitting just .214 against her.

Hutto was previously named the league’s Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 15.

The Hatters (16-9) will host Sacred Heart in doubleheader at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 8.
