Valentine Gemstones part of Science Saturday

GillespieMuseum-ScienceSaturday“We Love Rocks and Minerals,” is the theme for Stetson University’s next Science Saturday program, Feb. 13, at Stetson’s Gillespie Museum. From streak tests to crystal structures, this program is part of a Valentine’s weekend celebration of gemstones and precious metals, when young scientists will examine the physical properties of minerals and some of the historic lore of birthstones and other gems. In a beading workshop visitors can also create gifts and cards.

The program is scheduled from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Free and open to all, Science Saturdays offer opportunities for deepening our understanding of science in creative and fun ways. Visitors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Gillespie Museum is located at 234 E. Michigan Ave., on the southeast corner of the Stetson’s DeLand campus. For more information, contact the Gillespie Museum, at 386-822-7330, or visit the Museum’s website for information about this and other events.
