Mark your calendars now for a presentation by renowned jazz drummer Jim Black, in his presentation of “The Portrait of a Lady: Video Improvisations with Jim Black” on Thursday, Feb. 11, in the Faculty Lounge at the CUB at 6 p.m.

The event is open to the general public at no charge, and cultural credit will be available to Stetson students.

Black stands at the forefront of reviving jazz in the 21st century, bringing in Balkan rhythms, rock songcraft and laptop soundscapes to his performances and demonstrating his limitless capabilities by presenting futuristic concepts to an already passionate sound.

In recent years Black received a grant from Chamber Music Orchestra to write and record music with his Jim Black Trio, including Thomas Morgan on bass and Elias Stemeseder on piano. He also recorded an album with his rock trio Eyebone, with Nels Cline on guitar and Elias Stemeser.

This concert is sponsored by Amandine Pras, Stetson’s visiting assistant professor of digital arts. To learn more about Jim Black, visit his website at http://www.jimblack.com/.
