Guitarist Kevin Manderville to perform at Stetson University

Stetson University’s School of Music and the Guitar Program, under the direction of Stephen Robinson, D.M., professor of music and founder of the university’s Guitar Program, will present guitarist Kevin Manderville ’96, in concert on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. The performance will take place in Lee Chapel inside Elizabeth Hall, 421 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. Manderville, D.M., will also teach a masterclass on Saturday morning, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. in Room 213, Presser Hall, 419 N. Woodland Blvd. Both events are open to the public, free of charge.

Manderville, internationally acclaimed solo recitalist and chamber musician, and a graduate of Stetson University, will perform J.S. Bach’s Suite No.1, BWV 1007, Gerard Drozd’s Homage to J.S. Bach, three pieces by Leo Brouwer (Canticum, Un Dia de Noiembre, Tarantos), and Eduardo Garrido’s Homenaje a Leo Brouwer, as well as works by Gerardo Tamez and Johann Kaspar Mertz.

“I am thrilled to welcome Kevin back to DeLand,” said Robinson. “Since graduating from Stetson in 1996, Kevin has established himself as one of the leading guitar virtuosos of his generation.” Manderville has appeared in major cities and festivals throughout North America and Europe including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Guitar Foundation of America International Convention, the Iserlohn International Guitar Symposium, the 2nd Acadia International Guitar Festival, the Hamilton International Guitar Festival, the Columbus State University Guitar Symposium, the University of Louisville International Guitar Festival and the New York Guitar Seminar, among many others. He has won prizes in several international competitions, including first prize at the Concours International de Guitare de Lachine, second prize at the Rantucci International Guitar Competition and consecutive top prizes at the Columbus Guitar Symposium Competition. His debut CD, titled Through the Centuries, was released in the fall of 2010 on Clear Note.

Kevin Manderville began his classical guitar studies at the age of 18 with James Chandler. He holds degrees from Stetson University, where he studied with Robinson and Florida State University, where he completed the Doctor of Music degree under the tutelage of Bruce Holzman. In addition to his active performance schedule, Manderville is a dedicated teacher, who has taught in many diverse settings from universities to community programs. He currently resides in Montgomery, Ala., where he directs the classical guitar program at Carver Elementary Arts Magnet School and is on the faculty at Huntingdon College.
