Stetson University women’s basketball head coach Lynn Bria proudly announced the signing of Brittney Chambers (Orlando, Fla./Daytona State/Apopka HS), Kennedi Colclough (Gambrills, Md./Arundel HS) and Paloma Gragera (Tres Cantos, Spain/Montverde Academy) on Thursday. The three student-athletes will join the Hatters for the 2016-17 season.

Chambers, a 5-6 combo guard, is currently a sophomore at Daytona State where she is averaging 19.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. On November 18, she was named the NJCAA Division I Player of the Week after averaging 35.5 points in a pair of victories, including a 44-point effort vs. Northwest Florida State.

As a freshman, Chambers averaged 17.3 points per game and helped lead Daytona State to a 23-8 record. She was named the Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year and named to the FCSAA all-tournament team. For the season, she shot 46 percent from the floor and 44 percent from behind the arc.

A graduate of Apopka High School, Chambers will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Hatters.

“Brittney can score points in bunches,” Bria said.  “She has a great 3-point shot and a great mid-range game. She is also very quick. She can create her own shots, and she can create shots for her teammates.  She is a really good passer.  All around, she is going to be a great player for us.”

Colclough, a 6-0 forward, averaged 17.3 points, eight rebounds and three assists last year for Arundel High School. She was named a first team all-county and second-team all-metro performer.

Colclough has surpassed 1000 points for her prep career, including a 24-point effort in her team’s 2015 season-opening victory over Severna Park.

“Kennedi has great size and great versatility,” Bria said.  “She can post up, she can shoot the 3, and she can take the ball off the bounce well enough to get to the rim.  The thing about her is she is just relentless.  She plays extremely hard.  Her dad was an incredible athlete at Marshall, and she is just like him.  She just keeps coming at you.  Her upside is unbelievable.”

Gragera, a 6-2 forward, is in her second season with Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla. She was invited to compete in the Nike Nationals AAU tournament this past summer.

Prior to moving to the United States, Gragera played in her home country of Spain. She was named to the Madrid All Star team for U14 and U16 and was a member of the Madrid State Champion team in 2013.

“Paloma’s versatility is incredible,” Bria said.  “She is deadly from the arc, and she is also a great rebounder.  She is another competitor who wants to win all the time.  She can score points in a lot of different ways.  She is an all-around a complete player, so we will be able to play her inside and out.”

The Hatters (7-3) host Georgia Southern at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
