Since its inception in 2013, the Rabbi Barry and Malka Altman Lectures in Jewish Studies, was renamed the Malka Altman Memorial Lectures in Jewish Studies in 2015. It was established to bring major scholars to Stetson to deliver lectures on a variety of topics within the field of America Jewish studies, such as history, sociology, religion, gender studies and the arts. Hosted by Stetson’s Department of Religious Studies, the event is free and open to the public.

Antler is the author or editor of 11 books, including The Journey Home: How Jewish Women Shaped Modern America; Talking Back: Images of Jewish Women in American Popular Culture; America and I: Short Stories by American Jewish Women Writers; and You Never Call! Antler is currently writing a history of radical feminism and Jewish identity.

“Stetson is honored to host this lecture series generously established by Rabbi Barry Altman in memory of his wife, Malka,” said Mitchell Reddish, Ph.D., professor and chair of Stetson’s Department of Religious Studies. “These lectures, focused on Judaism in American life, will provide not only our students but the campus and community at large with a better understanding and appreciation of the American Jewish experience.”

The event will be held in the Stetson Room, second floor of the Carlton Union Building, 131 E. Minnesota Ave., on Stetson’s DeLand campus. For more information, contact Reddish at [email protected], or call 386-822-8930.
