Cory Reid Earns First A-Sun Player of the Week Honor

CoryReidPlayerWk copyJunior Cory Reid didn’t need a lot of time to make a mark on the Stetson baseball program.

The Port St. Lucie native, and transfer from the State College of Florida in Bradenton, picked up his first Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award for his play in five games for the Hatters last week.

Reid is the first Hatter to earn A-Sun Player of the Week honors since Patrick Mazeika earned the award on April 22, 2013.

Reid helped the Hatters to a 3-2 record on the week by hitting .636 (14-for-22) with four doubles, a triple, a home run and six RBI. He scored 11 runs for the Hatters and reached base in 16 of his 24 plate appearances.

In the Hatters’ 12-2 victory over then No. 23 FIU, Reid tied the school record for doubles in a game with three while also adding a triple. He went 4-for-5 at the plate in three of the five games and has reached base in all eight games this year.

Reid, who has hit safely in the last seven games, will look to continue his hot streak on Tuesday night when the Hatters visit cross-county rival Bethune-Cookman. The game against the Wildcats is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start from historic Jackie Robinson Park in Daytona Beach.
