Jama Sharp Named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week

JamaSharp-WBB copyFor the second time this season, Stetson University senior guard Jama Sharp (Mooresville, Ind.) has been named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Sharp averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.5 steals, and 3.5 assists per game last week to help lead Stetson to a pair of victories.  She scored 14 points and grabbed five steals in the Hatters’ 73-47 win over Jacksonville on Wednesday.

On Saturday, Sharp nearly posted a triple-double, collecting 16 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high-tying eight steals in Stetson’s 67-38 win over UNF.  She also added six assists and hit four 3-pointers in the game.

“Jama played a great game,” head coach Lynn Bria said after Saturday’s contest. “She was all over the place. What I am most proud of was she was being aggressive offensively and looking to shoot. She played both ends of the floor very crafty and got steals.  She just anticipates so well and thinks the game at such a high level.”

For the week, Sharp shot 56 percent from the floor and 60 percent from behind the arc, raising her career points total to 1,053.  She also became the fifth player in school history to reach 250 career steals.

This season, Sharp is averaging 12.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.  She also leads the Atlantic Sun and ranks sixth in the NCAA with an average of 3.4 steals per game.

Winners of six out of seven, the Hatters (13-4, 2-1 A-Sun) will host Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. Thursday night. For all Hatter Sports, visit GoHatters.com
