Jama Sharp Named a Senior CLASS Award Candidate

JamaSharp-CLASS award copyStetson University senior guard Jama Sharp (Mooresville, Ind.) has been selected as one of just 30 national candidates for the prestigious 2015 Senior CLASS Award.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

Sharp has excelled both on and off the court during her career at Stetson. Her on-court accolades include an Atlantic Sun first team all-conference and all-tournament team selection in 2013-14 and two Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors this season. She has amassed 1,080 points, 392 assists, and 254 steals during her career. Sharp has hit 144 3-point field goals as a Hatter, fifth-most in school history. She has played in 121 games without missing a single one.

This season, Sharp has helped lead the Hatters to a 15-4 mark overall (4-1 A-Sun) heading into the midway point of conference play. She is averaging 12.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, and she leads the league in assists (78) and steals (62).

A sport business major with a cumulative GPA of 3.52, Sharp is set to graduate from Stetson in May. She is a two-time Atlantic Sun Conference Scholar-Athlete and has been selected to the league’s All-Academic team every year.

Sharp consistently volunteers her time with area youth whenever she returns home, including coaching fourth and fifth grade for the Mooresville Junior Girls’ Basketball League.

Each of the 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists through the 2014-15 regular season. Those finalists will be put on a ballot for media, coaches and fans to vote on, as one candidate will eventually be recognized with the Senior CLASS Award for excellence.

Former Hatter Victoria McGowan was also a Senior CLASS Award candidate in 2012-13.

Stetson will visit Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. Thursday.
