Campus MovieFest returns to Stetson Feb. 7

CampusMovieFest[1] copyHatter Productions, Stetson’s premier campus programming board, is bringing Campus MovieFest (CMF) back to Stetson as part of its 14th annual world tour.

Campus MovieFest is the World’s Largest Student Film Festival International student movie-making festival. The top short movies will be shown at a red carpet finale 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, in the Stetson Room, second floor of the Carlton Union Building, 131 E. Minnesota Ave., DeLand. The public is invited, free of charge.

There are big changes to CMF this year – all geared at helping students create and share their stories with the world in bigger and better ways. What hasn’t changed is that students who sign up for CMF receive everything they need to make a five- minute movie in a week – a laptop loaded with Adobe Creative Cloud, a Panasonic HD camera, training, and support – all for free. New this year, all participants will receive external storage from Western Digital during their moviemaking week, and select students will receive Panasonic’s new LUMIX GH4 cameras.

The 2014-2015 tour, thanks to the help from partners such as Adobe, includes over 50 campuses in the United States and the United Kingdom, and will award over $150,000 in cash and prizes! Students can win $23,500 in cash grants as part of the Elfenworks Social Justice category, and $10,000 cash for the WD Fan Choice Award which invites select CMF entries to earn as many votes as possible online. In addition, top CMF films gain huge exposure opportunities and are showcased in-flight on Virgin America and at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.

This year, the top four movies, as scored by a campus panel of judges, will be named their campus Jury Award winners, earning a 12-month membership to Adobe Creative Cloud (a $600 value) and advance to CMF Hollywood. Jury Award winners also receive the coveted CMF trophy film slates presented by Doritos Crash The Super Bowl, t-shirts and more! Each campus finale will also announce several Silver Tripod Winners in categories including acting, directing, writing, cinematography, editing, special effects, sound design and production design.

CMF Hollywood is an unforgettable four days of workshops, screenings, and awards presented by industry luminaries. Last year’s event at Universal Studios included special guests Carl Reiner, Kathy Bates, Edward James Olmos, Chris Parnell, Jack McBrayer, Dave Coulier, Jennifer Morrison, Tom Shadyac, John Cho and many more.

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • Students may sign up online before movie-making launches at Stetson on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Students then have one week to film and edit their movies about anything they can imagine.
  • Movies are turned in on Tuesday, Feb. 3, and then judged by a panel of Stetson students, staff and faculty.
  • On Saturday, Feb. 7, the top short movies will be shown at a red carpet finale in the Stetson Room at 7:30 p.m., in the Stetson Room, located on the second floor of the Carlton Union Building, 131 E. Minnesota Ave., on the DeLand.
  • Top winners from Stetson advance to CMF Hollywood in June 2015.

Stetson winners are also invited to join the CMF Distinguished Filmmakers Network, a program that provides top students with opportunities ranging from paid content production to a chance to use the latest RED Digital Cinema cameras to shoot their next big project, plus many other unforgettable experiences within the film industry.

About CMF
CMF began over in 2001 when four students at Emory University provided fellow students with everything they needed to make movies in one week. Since then, more than 800,000 students have received all the necessary technology and training to tell their stories for free thanks to corporate partners and schools. Past winners have walked away with over $2 million in prizes and seen their films on the big screens at CMF events nationwide, at Cannes, at major Hollywood studios including Paramount, Warner Bros, Fox, and Universal, and on millions of smaller screens – including mobile devices, in-flight on Virgin America, and online.
