Men’s Hoops Opens Season Friday vs. Edward Waters

Basketball openerStetson opens its 102nd season of men’s basketball, 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14, when the Hatters host Edward Waters at Edmunds Center.

Head coach Corey Williams begins his second season with the Hatters looking to improve upon a 7-24 record of a year ago. The Hatters, who feature an NCAA-high seven scholarship true freshmen, return four letter winners from last season. Stetson is seeking its first season-opening victory since 2011.

Edward Waters (2-2) is an NAIA school in Jacksonville, Fla. The Tigers are coached by former Stetson standout Frank Burnell, who lettered for Stetson from 1979-83, and left school as the program’s fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,491 points.

Single-game tickets start at just $8 for general admission, while seasons tickets for men’s and women’s basketball start at $75.  Stetson faculty, staff, and students are free with a valid ID card.

Friday not only marks the season debut for Stetson but also the debut of Stetson basketball games on ESPN3. (See the story on Stetson Today – “Debuting Stetson Broadcast Productions.”) All 14 home games will be streamed live through the network. Robbie Aaron and Jim Tarabocchia will handle the play-by-play and color commentary duties, respectively.

Fans can also listen to the game on the radio on WSBB AM 1240 in New Smyrna Beach and AM 1490 in DeLand. The new tandem of Luke Mauro and Dan Panaggio will handle the broadcast duties.
