sandvolleyball-4x3The Stetson University indoor and sand volleyball programs have each been selected as recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for 2013-14, the organization announced on Monday, Aug. 4.

The award is presented annually to volleyball programs that maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The indoor program completed the 2013-14 academic year with a 3.44 team GPA, while the sand program compiled a 3.50 team GPA. It is the third consecutive year the Hatters’ sand program earned the AVCA Team Academic Award.

The indoor program was one of 134 recipients on the NCAA Division I level to be honored with the team award, and the sand program was just one of six. Stetson and Mercer were the only two Division I institutions to have both their indoor and sand programs recognized. The Hatters also saw a combined 28 student-athletes (indoor and sand) earn Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team honors in 2013-14.
