Sand Volleyball: AVCA Team Academic Award
August 06, 2014
The Stetson University indoor and sand volleyball programs have each been selected as recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for 2013-14, the organization announced on Monday, Aug. 4.
The award is presented annually to volleyball programs that maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The indoor program completed the 2013-14 academic year with a 3.44 team GPA, while the sand program compiled a 3.50 team GPA. It is the third consecutive year the Hatters’ sand program earned the AVCA Team Academic Award.
The indoor program was one of 134 recipients on the NCAA Division I level to be honored with the team award, and the sand program was just one of six. Stetson and Mercer were the only two Division I institutions to have both their indoor and sand programs recognized. The Hatters also saw a combined 28 student-athletes (indoor and sand) earn Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team honors in 2013-14.
