Hatters Football: New Orlando Radio Home

FOOTBALL-openingAs the Stetson football program prepares to enter its second season of competition, the Hatters will have a new home on the radio in the Orlando market.

In addition to airing live on our flagship stations – WSBB 1240 AM in New Smyrna and WTJV 1490 AM in DeLand – Hatters football will air this fall on WYGM 740 AM “The Game” in Orlando.

“The Hatter Radio Network took a significant step forward today by adding Clear Channel Media & Entertainment as a football and coaches show partner,” Stetson Director of Athletics Jeff Altier said. “As Stetson University continues to grow enrollment, the intercollegiate athletics program is focusing on developing partnerships with the media sports leaders in Central Florida and the country.

“The Clear Channel partnership emphasizing coaches shows and football will complement the Hatter Radio Network and the new ESPN3 production partnership, which will broadcast all of our upcoming men’s and women’s basketball games. The Stetson story, moving students from ‘Success to Significance’ is a wonderful story, and these new media partners will provide the vehicle for us to tell our story.”

football-radioNot only will all 12 Stetson regular season games air, but there will also be a weekly call-in show on the network, which will air on Monday nights from 7-8 p.m. “Hatter Chatter” will feature head coach Roger Hughes along with host Matt Musgrove to talk Stetson football and all things Stetson Athletics.

“740 The Game and Clear Channel Media & Entertainment Orlando are excited to enter into this partnership with Stetson University Athletics and Stetson Hatters Football,” Rick Everett, Program Director for 740 The Game, said. “Stetson Hatters fans in Orlando can count on us for all the action on the field on Saturday afternoons this fall and all the news off the field with the coaches’ show on Monday nights as well as our local sports programming.”

The Hatters will play six home games at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium, which has been dubbed “The Best Little Stadium in College Football,” this fall. Last year the Hatters averaged more than 5,500 fans at six home games. In addition to listening at the stadium, fans will also be able to tune in as the Hatters travel across the country, from North Carolina to Kentucky and California, during the season.

“This is a tremendous step for Stetson Athletics,” Assistant Director of Athletics Jeff Higgins said. “We are thrilled to call 740 ‘The Game’ a partner, not only because it demonstrates the continued growth and increased visibility of our athletic program, but because of the benefits that growth will present to our students, coaches, fans and corporate partners. We couldn’t be happier with this arrangement.”

Hughes said the new partnership sends a message that Stetson University is much more than a small, regional, college.

“Obviously we are excited about getting into a new market and getting the Stetson Football brand out there,” Hughes said. “There are a lot of exciting things going on at Stetson, not just with the football program, so it is an exciting time for a lot of people. By getting out there on ‘The Game’ and telling our story, and it is a great story to tell; we will be able to get more and more people involved. Stetson is a global university, and people will know that.”

Hatters fans in Volusia County have come to count on “The Great Voice of Volusia County,” WSBB and WTJV, for Stetson athletics coverage through live events and special programming. That coverage has been made possible by the president of Diegel Communications, Skip Diegel since he first began to carry Stetson Athletics in 2012. Now, fans in Orange and Seminole Counties will have the same opportunity through 740 “The Game”.

“We are looking forward to a great year of Stetson football on 740 ‘The Game’,” afternoon host Michael Joseph, better known as “The Shot Doctor” said. “I am excited about working with Coach Hughes as the season progresses. With the season-opener against Warner and the home-opener versus Florida Tech right around the corner, it will be exciting times to team with our great friends with Stetson football on 740 ‘The Game’.”

In addition to being available over the air, Hatters football games and the coaches shows will also be available world-wide online through both of our radio partners.
