Women’s Soccer: 15 additions to 2014 program

Soccer HigdonStetson women’s soccer head coach Manoj Khettry and assistant coach Stephanie Demake are proud to introduce 15 newcomers that will join the Hatters program for the 2014 season, as announced Friday morning.

Casey Baker (Cumming, Ga.), Sarah Collins (Loxahatchee, Fla.), Brianna Hamson (Tampa, Fla.), Kendall Harmon (Tampa, Fla.), Anna Higdon-pictured-(Catonsville, Md.), Karlie Hightower (Carrollton, Ga.), Ashley Ingolia (Arlington Heights, Ill.), Kathryn Kelley (Matthews, N.C.), Briana Kulisch (Ashburn, Va.), Annette Morton (Lakeside, Calif.), Meredith Sinak (St. Louis, Mo.), Kahri Smith (Fountain Hills, Ariz.), Adrianna Suarez (Kingwood, Texas), Katlyn Sullivan (Fort Myers Beach, Fla.), and Allison Zaccheo (Hanson, Mass.) have all chosen attend Stetson in the fall of 2014.

“Obviously we’re excited about bringing in our first recruiting class,” Khettry said. “It is a really large class. With 15 student-athletes, it is the largest class that I’ve ever recruited. From top to bottom they give us a great deal of experience. This class makes our team more competitive right away by the sheer numbers, but also by the quality of the players we brought in.”

CASEY BAKER – (Position: Midfielder) Baker helped lead Lambert High School to a 45-12-3 record over the last three seasons, earning regional championships in both 2011 and 2013. This past season she earned the Silver Boot Award for Georgia Class 6A after scoring five goals and recording nine assists. She participated with the Georgia State ODP team in 2010. Baker chose Stetson for its combination of great academics, high level of soccer, and highly regarded coach. Her father, two uncles, and cousin all played collegiate basketball.

SARAH COLLINS – (Position: Forward) Collins comes to Stetson after leading The Kings Academy to a pair of district championships and a regional championship in 2011. She was a multiple First Team All-County selection, was named the Kings Academy MVP in 2011, and earned the Scholar Athlete Award from the school in 2013. Over the last two seasons she has scored 55 goals and recorded 35 assists at Kings. While playing club for Team Boca she helped the team to Orange Classic and Disney Qualifiers Championships. She also participated with the Florida ODP team and was a member of the Region III Pool in 2010.

BRIANNA HAMSON – (Position: Midfielder) Hamson is coming off of a season in which she helped lead Walter Sickles HS to the regional quarterfinals and a 10-6-1 record. She scored 15 goals and had two assists while earning FHSAA Class 4A All-Western Conference First Team honors in 2013, and was an all-county honorable mention with seven goals and 12 assists in 2012. Playing club with VSI, she won the FYSA State Cup and the Florida Cup, and the team was a semifinalist at the ECNL National Finals, and a quarterfinalist at the PDA Showcase. Hamson also participated with the Florida ODP team and was a member of the Region III Pool from 2010-12.

KENDALL HARMON – (Position: Defender) Harmon was an all-county honorable mention and a “Top Player to Watch” by the Tampa Tribune while playing high school soccer at Plant High School. With an overall record of 30-6-3 over the last two seasons, her squad was the regional runner-up in 2012-13. Harmon’s Tampa Bay United club team is currently ranked #1 in Florida and #3 in the Southeast Region. In the spring of 2013 they were a Southeast Region Finalist. Harmon chose Stetson because of its excellent academic reputation and the great soccer program.

ANNA HIGDON (pictured) – (Position: Midfielder) Higdon is a three-time all-county and all-division honoree from Maryland. She also earned All-Metro honors from the Baltimore Sun and was named All-State as a senior. Higdon led Catonsville to a Class 4A County Championship, a Region Championship, and a State Final. In 2013 the team finished ranked fourth in the state with a record of 17-2-0, the school’s most successful season. Higdon finished her senior year with three goals and 11 assists. She also participated with Maryland’s ODP team in 2012 and 2013 and was a member of the Region I Pool in 2012. Higdon chose Stetson because she wanted to play for a soccer program that competes at a high level while getting a great education.

KARLIE HIGHTOWER – (Position: Goalkeeper) Hightower comes to Stetson after playing at Carrollton High School in Georgia. There she helped lead her team to a 42-15-2 overall record over the last three seasons. She has also played club soccer for the Southern Soccer Academy since 2009. Hightower was selected to a high school all-star game, the Super Y ODP camp, and was the Tournament MVP at the Triangle Friendlies. She chose Stetson because she felt at home from the first moment she stepped on campus.

ASHLEY INGOLIA – (Position: Goalkeeper) Ingolia played high school soccer at Rolling Meadows in Illinois and played club for NSA Premier. With NSA she has won the Illinois State Championship each of the last three seasons, and won the Regional Championship in 2013. The team advanced as a Nationals participant in addition to winning the MRL Championship, and placing first in the National League. Ingolia also participated with Illinois ODP and was a member of the the Region II B Pool in 2011. She chose Stetson because she really liked the atmosphere of the team and the coaching staff.

KATHRYN KELLEY – (Position: Defender) Kelley is coming off of a junior year in 2013 in which she scored 21 goals and had 12 assists at Porter Ridge High School. She is currently eighth in school history for career goals scored. Kelley led Porter Ridge to a Southern Conference 4A Championship in 2011, and helped the team advance to the 4A Playoffs each of the last three years. She participated with the North Carolina ODP Team from 2010 to 2012. Kelley chose Stetson because of its academics, the size of the schools, and the soccer program.

BRIANA KULISCH – (Position: Midfielder) Kulisch played high school soccer at Briar Woods where she helped lead the team to the Region II Quarterfinals in 2011. She also plays club soccer for the Bethesda Freedom and previously for the highly ranked Braddock Road Youth Club. With BRYC she won the Washington Area Girls Soccer Division I league, U.S. Soccer’s Regional Championship, and the Richmond Kicker Invitational. Kulisch chose Stetson because the academics, the beautiful campus, and the soccer program were a perfect fit.

ANNETTE MORTON – (Position: Defender) Morton comes to Stetson after playing high school soccer at Granite Hills in Southern California. There she was named Most Valuable Player, First Team, and Player of the Year. She also received Outstanding Athlete recognition. While playing club soccer with Albion SC, Morton won the Albion Tournament, the Legends Tournament, and the November Nights Showcase. She also won the Eclipse College Showcase, the Las Vegas Players Showcase, the SD United Tournament, and the Eagles Cup with SD United. She chose Stetson because it has a beautiful campus, competitive soccer, and a prime location.

MEREDITH SINAK – (Position: Defender) Sinak played high school soccer at Ursuline Academy where she was named team captain in 2013 and 2014. Playing club ball with St. Louis Scott Gallagher, Sinak won the Missouri State Cup three straight years. In 2013 they were a Region II Semifinalist, and in the summer of 2014 the team will challenge for the Region II title again. The squad also won the Disney Showcase in 2013. Sinak also participated with the Missouri ODP team. She chose Stetson because she felt very comfortable with the coaching staff and the other recruits when she attended an ID Camp.

KAHRI SMITH – (Position: Goalkeeper) Smith comes to Stetson after a high school career at Fountain Hills in Arizona. There she led her team to the State Tournament three times as a team captain. Smith was All-State Second Team selection, as well as a First Team All-Region honoree. She recorded over 100 saves in each of her first three seasons at Fountain Hills, including a 198-save season in 2013. Smith has had an astounding 33 shutouts in four seasons of high school soccer. She chose Stetson because of its high level of academics and the soccer program.

ADRIANNA SUAREZ – (Position: Midfielder) Suarez is a three-time all-district selection from Texas. While playing high school soccer at Kingwood, she also earned Academic All-District honors, the Varsity “K” Award, and First Team All-Region honors. This season she has already been named to the National Elite Prep Showcase All-Tournament Team. Kingwood has accumulated a record of 66-10-5 and made it to the regional finals three times during Suarez’s first three seasons. She has played with Texas HeatWave, Challenge Kingwood, and Challenge SC for club soccer, winning the President’s Cup State Championship and earning fifth place at Nationals.

KATLYN SULLIVAN – (Position: Forward) Sullivan comes to Stetson after earning District Player of the Year and Second Team All-State honors while at Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers. The last two seasons Sullivan has recorded 57 goals and 11 assists, finishing 2013-14 alone with 36 in the back of the net, helping her team advance to the Final Four. She played with the Florida ODP Team and the Region III Team. Sullivan will be going on a trip to Italy this April with the Region II team, and was invited to the U.S. National Training Center games in Jacksonville. She also ran cross country and track at Bishop Verot, earning Class 4A All-Area and All-State honors. She chose Stetson because of the beautiful campus, the stellar academics, and the future of the soccer program.

ALLISON ZACCHEO – (Position: Forward)

Zaccheo helped lead Notre Dame Academy to the Division 2 State Championship with a record of 21-2-0 as a senior in 2013. She also reached the Division 1 State Tournament first round or quarterfinals each of her first three seasons. Zaccheo earned Eastern Massachusetts All-Star honors and was an All-Scholastic Honorable Mention in 2013. She totaled a staggering 73 assists to go along with 26 goals during her four year high school career. Playing club soccer with Scorpions SC, she advanced to the State Cup Semifinals, to go along with winning the Jefferson Cup, the MPS Thanksgiving Showcase, and the Scorpion Bowl.
