Two Hatters named A-Sun Players of Week

Porter was 11-for-19 from the floor vs. Kennesaw State and recorded 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.  She also contributed three blocks to bring her season total to 58.

On Thursday, Porter scored 15 points in the Hatters win at Mercer, knocking down 7-of-11 shots from the field.  She posted a .600 (18-for-30) field goal pct. for the week and averaged 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

Porter was also selected as the College Sports Madness A-Sun Player of the Week on Monday.

For the season, the Woodbridge, Va. native is averaging 13.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game for the Hatters, who have won four straight.  Stetson (12-5, 4-1 A-Sun) will return home to face UNF at 7 p.m. Thursday night.

ASun Brian PeggStetson men’s basketball redshirt-freshman Brian Pegg was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Week for his performance in Hatter victories over ETSU and USC Upstate over the weekend, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Pegg, who nearly averaged a double-double for the week, earned his first ever weekly honor from the conference and gave Stetson its first such accolades of the season. The forward averaged 10.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while playing 39.0 minutes per contest for the Hatters.

Averaging 6.8 rebounds per game on the season, Pegg is currently sixth in the A-Sun in the category. The freshman has stepped his game up during league play though, currently ranking second in the conference during A-Sun play with 8.7 boards per tilt.

Pegg’s 10 points, 13 rebound double-double helped lead Stetson to a 77-73 overtime victory over Upstate on Saturday, the Hatters’ first overtime win since Jan. 31, 2009. Stetson improved to 3-4 in A-Sun play with the triumph, moving the Hatters into sixth place in the league.
