Jan. 23 – Speaker Series – 2nd Annual Civil Rights Speaker Series: 1963 Children’s Crusade: Janice Kelsey, 7-8:30 p.m., Stetson Room, Carlton Union Building, 131 E. Minnesota Ave. Sponsored by Stetson’s Cross-Cultural Center and Stetson Education Department. Moderated by College of Law Professor Bob Bickel. Kelsey was a child foot soldier during the American Civil Rights Movement’s Birmingham Children’s Crusade. Open to the public, free of charge. Not a recordable event by outside agencies.

Jan. 24 – Art Reception opening two art exhibitions at Hand Art Center: Oscar Bluemner: The Language of Trees (Jan. 24-May 5); Modern Movements: Selections from the Brenau University Art Collection (Jan. 24-Feb. 27). Feb. 12 – Lecture – Stetson’s Social Justice Lecture Series presents Dr. Susan Rankin, to speak on “Out of the Shadows: Building Inclusive Communities.” Rankin, former senior research associate in the Center for the Study of Higher Education at The Pennsylvania State University, is the founding member of the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals. 7 p.m., Stetson Room, Carlton Union Building, 131 E. Feb. 13 – Lecture – Created Equal America’s Civil Rights Struggle, based on the theme of “Inequality Under the Law.” Featuring Stetson professors Susan Peppers-Bates, Joshua Rust, T. Feb. 19 – Art Curator’s Talk – Dr. Roberta Favis, Curator of the Vera Bluemner Kouba Collection and Professor Emerita of Art History at Stetson, will discuss the Bluemner exhibition currently on display at the Hand Art Center, The Language of Trees, 7 p.m., Room 25 of the Instructional Media Center, duPont-Ball Library, 134 E. Feb. 20-23 – Theatre – Vinegar Tom. This play is set in 17th century England and reveals the darker side of human nature when a man, recently spurned by a woman, seeks retaliation by accusing her of being a witch. Women in this small town must ban together as witch hysteria takes hold. 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. Sunday at 3 p.m. Located at Stetson’s 2nd Stage Theatre in the Museum of Art, 600 N. Woodland Blvd., across from campus. Open to the public/for mature audiences. March 19 – Lecture – Soviet Ukranian Tango? The Problem of Popular Culture in the Soviet Borderlands, part of Stetson’s 2013-14 History Colloquia. March 28 – TEDx event returns to Stetson for second year: Significance in Action: Creating Learning, Innovation and Happiness. 2:30-7:30 p.m., Allen Hall, 508 N. Woodland Blvd. Tickets are $10/each and will go on sale Friday, Feb. 28, to both the Stetson community and the public. Only 100 tickets will be available for purchase due to space. March 28 – Music Presentation – Jacareˊ Brazil, a music ensemble from University of Florida School of Music, devoted to Brazil’s rich musical heritage. Founded by 1990 by Larry Crook, and with the addition of Welson Tremura as co-director in 2002, the group has become the premiere ensemble of its kind in the U.S. 7-8:30 p.m., Lee Chapel, inside Elizabeth Hall, 421 N. April 5 – Relay for Life – A family-friendly environment for the entire community, this is an overnight fundraising walk for the American Cancer Society. All day long.
