Christmas Candlelight starts Thursday
The Stetson University School of Music will present the ever-popular, annual tradition of the Christmas Candlelight Concerts Thursday, Dec. 5 through Saturday, Dec. 7. All performances will be held in Lee Chapel inside Elizabeth Hall, located at 421 N. Woodland Blvd., on the DeLand campus.
“The rich traditions of this concert continue this year with glowing candles and beautiful sacred music performed by Stetson’s choirs, brass, pipe organ, and members of the chamber orchestra,” said Timothy Peter, director of choral activities at Stetson University. “It is an honor to work with our talented students in preparation and rehearsals resulting in a wonderful experience for the audience and performers alike. It is my hope that the Christmas Candlelight Concerts reflect all that is good about Stetson University as we share the message of joy and peace during this season.”
Performances on Thursday and Friday begin at 7:30 p.m. There will be two performances on Saturday: one at 5 p.m., and another at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available for the 8 p.m. performance on Saturday night.
The 2013 Christmas Candlelight Concert repertoire includes works by Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Vaughan Williams, in addition to Christmas music from around the world and traditional Christmas carols. The concerts will feature over 150 musicians including the Stetson University Concert Choir, the Stetson Women’s Chorale and the Stetson Men. The concert is conducted by Dr. Peter and Dr. Andrew Larson, associate director of choral activities.
General admission tickets cost $25 per person; $20 for senior citizens, and $15 for area students and those with a Stetson ID. No one will be admitted to a performance without a ticket. Tickets may be purchased, with cash or check, at the School of Music front office in Presser Hall, 419 N. Woodland Blvd.
