Be part of International Education Week

International Education WeekStetson University will again this year partake in International Education Week, holding almost 20 programs on a range of international topics on our campus, Nov. 18-24. A listing of events can be found on the World: International Learning website, many of which are for cultural credit. The topics of the events literally span the globe on a broad variety of issues.

“Making international and intercultural learning central to the everyday fabric of our campus and the experience for our community is a strategic goal for the University,” said Beth Paul, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “International Education Week brings our campus together in support of all our values, and serves as a reminder that these conversations must be part of the continuous dialogue for our entire community given the global environment we are engaged in.”

A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education started in 2000, the annual event is now celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide. The program provides an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. The initiative aims to promote international understanding and build support for international educational exchange by encouraging the development of programs that prepare Americans to live and work in a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study in the United States.

“The breadth of this year’s events, grounded in Stetson’s academic principles of rigor, relationship and responsibility, could not have been achieved without the participation of so many faculty, student organizations, and staff” says Eric Canny, executive director of international learning. “This is crucial to making the discourse of International Education Week span the entire campus, not be an isolated series of events for a few. I cannot thank our community enough for engaging to make this year’s schedule so wide-ranging.”

Each spring, Stetson runs a parallel “Stetson International Week” of similar events for the University. The 2014 Stetson International Week will occur during the week of March 24, and planning is already underway.
