Hoecker followed in the footsteps of her teammate Mallory Viera (Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.) who won the Florida State Women’s Amateur Championship last month.

“It continues to be a great summer for our golf team,” Stetson head coach Floyd Kerr said. “To have two of our players win their state championship is really neat. First, Mallory wins the Florida State Amateur Championship and now Jenna wins the New York State Amateur Championship in a great finishing round. I am extremly proud of both of them.”

After shooting 75-74 in the first two rounds in wet and rainy conditions, Hoecker found herself leading by one stroke heading into the final round. She then carded a one-under-par 70 to pull away from the field, capturing her first state title by an eight-stroke margin.

“It felt good to finally shoot a round under par as well as hit 14 out of 18 greens,” Hoecker said after the final round. “My mental game is finally coming around and I am excited for the upcoming semester.”

“For Jenna this is a huge step,” Kerr said. “She has always been one of our hardest workers in practice and now it is great to see her reap benefits for her efforts.”

Earlier this week, incoming Hatter freshman Alessandra Kutz (Sanford, Fla.) qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, which will be played August 5-11 in Charleston, S.C.

“As the summer winds down our players still have some tournament golf left and hopefully they will finish strong and be ready to go this fall,” Kerr said.
