Cam Griffin selected by Pirates in MLB draft

Cam Griffin MLB draftOver the weekend Stetson junior Cameron Griffin joined a long list of Hatters to be selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.  The left-hander was picked by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 23rd round (689th overall).

Over 90 student-athletes from the Stetson baseball program have gone on to play professionally, with many going on to have successful careers.  Currently Corey Kluber and Chris Johnson are amidst great campaigns with the Cleveland Indians and the Atlanta Braves, respectively.

Griffin has pitched mainly as a reliever for Stetson during his three seasons in DeLand.  He has made 92 appearances on the mound, started three times, and has struck out 90 batters.  Griffin has a career record of 8-6 and recorded a career best single-season ERA of 4.50 in 2011.

This season Griffin picked up a pair of wins in a series victory against North Florida, earned the win against eventual Atlantic Sun Conference Champion ETSU, and early in the year helped top the Big Ten’s Ohio State with five shutout innings of relief.
