For the second straight week and for the third time this season, Stetson University junior pitcher Meredith Owen has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Owen went a perfect 4-0 in the circle with a 0.75 ERA for the Hatters last week.  She pitched four complete games including all 21 innings in the weekend series vs. ETSU, and opponents hit just .187 against her for the week.  She struck out 26 batters in 28 innings without allowing a single walk.

A native of Jackson, Miss., Owen fanned 10 batters over seven innings in Stetson’s 6-2 victory over UNF last Wednesday.  She then tossed a pair of three-hit shutouts on Saturday against ETSU, allowing just one runner as far as third base.  Owen pitched the Hatters to a weekend sweep with another complete game effort Sunday against the Bucs.

On the season, Owen holds a 19-7 record and a 1.84 ERA.  She has won seven consecutive games and has not walked a batter over the last 39 innings (153 consecutive batters faced).  She is tied for the conference league in victories (19).

Owen was also selected as the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week by the College Sports Madness website. The award goes to the top all-around player in the league for the week, and Owen helped her cause at the plate going 4-for-12 with a home run and three RBI.

Winners of eight of their last 10 games, the Hatters (28-18, 11-11 A-Sun) have moved into a tie for sixth place in the A-Sun standings with Wednesday’s opponent, Jacksonville.  The Hatters and Dolphins will play a single game at 5 p.m. at the JU Softball Complex in Jacksonville.
