Hatters Honored With A-Sun Postseason Accolades

Number 41 was named one of Stetson's three basketball players named to the A-Sun players of the week.
Adam Pegg, senior, becomes the first Stetson player to be named to the All-Atlantic Sun First Team since Sebastian Singletary in 2000-01.

Three Stetson men’s basketball student-athletes received postseason accolades from the Atlantic Sun Conference on Tuesday afternoon.  SeniorAdam Pegg, junior Chris Perez, and junior Hunter Miller were honored by the league following their 2012-13 regular season performances.

Pegg was named First Team All-Atlantic Sun, was named to the Academic All-Conference Team, and was honored as the A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  Perez earned Second Team All-Atlantic Sun honors, and Miller was named to the Academic All-Conference Team.  This marks the first time since 1992-93 that Stetson has placed a pair of Hatters on the All-Conference First and Second Teams.

A second team selection a year ago, Pegg becomes the first Stetson player to be named to the All-Atlantic Sun First Team since Sebastian Singletary in 2000-01.  Pegg leads the Hatters with 15.6 points per game, and is the only player in the conference to finish the regular season in the Top 10 in scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage.  The center has scored in double figures in 26 of 28 games this season, and has recorded four double-doubles.  Pegg was also named A-Sun Player of the Week earlier this season.

After earning A-Sun Academic honors his first two seasons at Stetson, this marks Pegg’s first appearance on the new Academic All-Conference Team, integrated last year to honor student-athletes for their excellence on and off the court.  Named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team earlier this season, Pegg was also named the A-Sun’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for his performance on the court and in the classroom.  The senior currently holds a 3.39 GPA while majoring in Integrative Health Science.

Perez and his 15.3 points per game gave Stetson the highest scoring duo in the league this season.  The junior is currently fourth in the league, scoring 16.3 points per game during A-Sun games.  Perez has scored in double figures 23 times this season, and has reached the 20-point plateau seven times in 2012-13.  The guard was named A-Sun Player of the Week once, scored a career-high 32 points against Jacksonville, and netted a buzzer-beating layup to top Florida Atlantic earlier this season.

Miller joined Pegg on the Academic All-Conference Team.  The junior holds a 3.78 cumulative GPA while majoring in Business Administration.  Miller stepped up into a starting role midway through the season, and the Hatters have seen plenty of success since that point.  Not a true point guard, Miller has helped carry that load this season, averaging 3.0 assists during league games.  The junior is also leading the team with a 58.3 three-point percentage during conference contests.

Stetson returns to action on Thursday when the third seeded Hatters take on sixth seeded ETSU in the 2013 General Shale Atlantic Sun Men’s Basketball Championship.  The program’s first appearance in the A-Sun Tournament since 2008-09, Stetson will look to capture its first conference title this week in Macon, Ga.
