Stetson University’s NOW Council presents “The Vagina Monologues,” a play about the multiple struggles of women from around the world. The Vagina Monologues will be presented Feb. 21 and 22 at 8 p.m.  and Feb. 23 at 9 p.m.

“The Vagina Monologues” is made up of a number of monologues read by a varying number of women. Each of the monologues deals with an aspect of the feminine experience, touching on matters such as sex, love, rape, menstruation, female genital mutilation, birth, orgasm, the various common names for the vagina, or simply as a physical aspect of the body. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of individuality.

“The Vagina Monologues” is performed as a part of the annual V-Day Campaign. Every year, V-Day invites activists in colleges, communities, high schools, or youth groups around the world to present select benefit events during and leading up to V-Season (Feb. 1–April 30). The purpose of these events is to raise awareness about violence against women and girls, as well as raise money for local beneficiaries that are working to end violence. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the Daytona Beach Domestic Abuse Council.

Admission for each performance is $5. Performances will be held at Stetson Theatre Arts’ “Second Stage” Theatre, located in the Museum of Florida Art at 600 N. Woodland Blvd. Parking is free. Tickets will also be available at the door.
