Business alumnus offers internship options

April 16, 2014

Cangelosi, AustraliaStetson University alumnus Anthony Cangelosi ’09, has achieved many goals he had set for himself, working in the sports industry. Through attending Stetson, Cangelosi was able to gain an education that would properly prepare him to start his own entrepreneurial company.

Currently the commercial Manager for the Sydney Blue Sox and The ABL (Australian baseball league), and former assistant general manager to the Canberra Cavalry (1013/14 Asia series champions), Cangelosi graduated from Stetson with a bachelor’s degree in both marketing and family business.

Upon graduating Cangelosi’s journey took him all over the world allowing him to work with some of the largest sporting teams and corporations globally.

“I first began to understand the value of entrepreneurism while I was at Stetson.” Cangelosi said. “I feel the education I received at Stetson was easily applicable to real world settings.” As a Stetson student in 2008, he won the Family Business Student of the Year award and was named the Entrepreneur of the Year that same year.

“As co-owner of Swanky Sports, a sports marketing entrepreneurial company, I developed a sales and research project in which I met with English football clubs: Exeter City F.C., Brentford F.C., Millwall F.C., and Global Power house, Chelsea F.C.” said Cangelosi. “It was my duty to pitch the project, assemble a quality team, and lead the research and execution of the project. We ended up doing consulting for Exeter City FC in the end.”

On top of working with multiple English football teams, his work has allowed him to work in Germany (Adidas), Major League Soccer (League and Chivas USA) , and now Australia (Australian Baseball League). In between international stints Cangelosi was part of a five person consulting team that was the official “voice of the fan” for the NFL in 2011.

This year he was on the team that helped run the MLB Opening Series at the SCG in Sydney between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks.

With immense experience in both the Marketing and Managerial aspects of the sporting industry, Cangelosi has excellent advice to offer students. He hopes to offer a potential selling point for Stetson University by offering students a variety of different internship possibilities. “I would like to give back to Stetson by offering internships to students looking to make a name for themselves in sports,” said Cangelosi.
