Blackfish, football lead Stetson news coverage

With Stetson’s first football game in 56 years less than a month away, coverage for the sport continues to dominate chatter about Stetson online, in print and on air. Release of the movie Blackfish in local markets has spurred coverage as well since Stetson visiting professor John Jett appears in the film. Notable national, regional and local media coverage includes Associated Press, About.com, Central Florida News 13, Bay News 9, Orlando Sentinel, Daytona Beach News-Journal, Florida Higher Education Spectator, and Charleston Gazette. - Law Professor Peter Lake spoke with the Associated Press for an Aug. 4 article about a Montana law impeding schools from sharing data. That article was picked up by dozens of news outlets throughout the country.
- Stetson is expecting a record enrollment this fall, according to an Aug. 3 article in the Daytona Beach News-Journal. The article quotes enrollment vice president Joel Bauman as saying that enhancements to facilities as well as football and women’s lacrosse contributed to the increase.
- About.com reports on Aug. 6 that more than one-third of Stetson applicants will not be admitted while successful applicants tend to have solid SAT or ACT scores and a strong academic record. The site goes on to say that admission officials at Stetson also look at the rigor of high school academics, meaningful involvement in extracurricular activities and letters of recommendation.
- Law Professor Charles Rose’s interview with Fox News radio about the Fort Hood court martial ran in media outlets throughout the country on Aug. 6 including WTAQ, KLBJ, WTAM and WGMD.
