People love to see people fail and in this case lose. Competition brings out the best and worst in people in which drives rivalries between teams. With each team has some kind of rival in one form or another, the marketing of the teams promotes each team itself, if your rooting for the team or not. The Georgia vs. Alabama game is such a big game of the year because these two teams are "rivals" but i guarentee that each form of advertisement did not just promote one team over the other which increases the marketing of both teams. And when one or the other team loses, they still look foward to the next game to see if they can come back because it is a continuing rivalry and the fact that they want to come back and win keeps the rivarlry going. So I guess all I am trying to say is that YES... losing is a good marketing strategy.
