Emmy-Award-winning graphic novelist to speak Oct. 16

Stetson University will host an illustrated artist’s talk, followed by a Q&A, with Emmy-Award-winning graphic novelist Dean Haspiel, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Rinker Auditorium, inside the Lynn Business Center, 345 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. A reception will follow in Sampson Hall. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

The appearance of Dean Haspiel is made possible by Atlantic Center for the Master Artists-in-Residence Outreach Program, and Ed & Jeanie Harris. It is sponsored by Stetson University’s Artists & Lecturers Committee, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and Stetson University Humanities Program.

Emmy-Award-winning artist Dean Haspiel (“Dino”), creator of the Eisner Award nominated comic-book series BILLY DOGMA,  has illustrated for HBO’s “Bored To Death,” received a residency from The Corporation of Yaddo, and teaches comic book storytelling. Dino has written and drawn many superhero comics and semi-autobiographical comix, including Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men, Godzilla, Mars Attacks, and collaborations with Harvey Pekar, Jonathan Ames, Inverna Lockpez, and Jonathan Lethem.
