Workshop, tours, at Gillespie Museum

Stetson University’s Gillespie Museum will present “For the Love of Rocks and Minerals” on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Participants will have the opportunity to tour Stetson’s Earth Science Museum and join a beading workshop or hand-craft natural gifts in time for Valentine’s Day. The museum is located at 234 E. Michigan Ave., DeLand.

The Gillespie Museum of Minerals’ collection includes 20,000 mineral, rock, and fossil specimens – one of the oldest and largest in the southeastern United States – has developed over the past 50 years into a center for environmental education. Exhibits and displays include geology, native Florida ecosystems and plant landscapes, minerals and mining, and fluorescent rocks.
