About Us

The Writing Center is staffed by friendly, trained, peer tutors who come from majors and programs across campus. As students and writers ourselves, we know that writing can be difficult, and we know how valuable a second pair of eyes can be to the writing process. We hope to help each student who visits us become a better, more confident writer, one paper at a time.

Fall 2013 Tutoring Staff

media/Bianca.jpg

Bianca, Fall 2013 Lead Tutor, is an English major who enjoys Florida's sunny shores and finds great company in a novel. She has more shoes and purses than one person could ever possibly need, harbors an ongoing adoration for Mr. Darcy, and believes commas are magical tools everyone should learn to use. She can be found frolicking through Flagler, her second home, on any given day.

Noelle is a chemistry major and a senior this year (how sad!). She enjoys kayaking and has recently been trying to take up sailing. This is her third year in the writing center, and she enjoys watching students grow throughout the year!

Kristen is a double major in Sociology and Psychology, and the Vice-President of STAND. She loves reading, playing the ukulele, and her dog.

Annie, an Engish major, has been working in the Writing Center since Fall of 2012. Her only goal is to make students better writers through the use of often nonsensical analogies and examples. She also likes using red pens, but that may or may not be related to the whole editing thing.

Aiden is an English Major with minors in Business, Education, Gender Studies, and Humanities.

Elizabeth is a chemistry major and music minor, so staying busy is her way of life. She is a home-grown Florida girl and loves going to the beach and Disney. Her interests include hanging out with her boys, line dancing, listening to country music, drinking sweet tea, and taking naps. Her favorite word is defenestrate.

Maggie Herb, who was once told by an English teacher that she had a "fundamental problem with semicolons," is the director of the Stetson University Writing Center and a lecturer in the English department. She is a recent transplant from western Pennsylvania and therefore finds central Florida equal parts beautiful and weird. Maggie is currently completing her Ph.D. in Composition and TESOL at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, her dissertation focusing on the narratives of writing center tutors and the writers with whom they work. She is a contributor to Before and After the Tutorial: Writing Centers and Institutional Relationships (Hampton Press, 2011). She feels incredibly honored that her job involves working with peer tutors and reading the words of emergent writers.
