Eric Canny

Short description
Mr. Canny is an experienced international educational administrator with more than 16 years in higher education and internationalization, traveled to 50 countries and lived in four different countries. He leads Stetson’s efforts to deepen international and intercultural learning and to integrate those opportunities across academic disciplines and amongst students, faculty and staff.
He joined Stetson from the University of North Texas where he served as Director of International Initiatives. He was instrumental in improving and integrating international operations throughout UNT by facilitating collaboration in areas across the university including faculty support, admissions, budgeting and student services. He was also Acting Director of Global Learning and Experience (study-abroad) at UNT from 2010 to 2011.
Prior to his work at North Texas, Canny served at New York University as Director of Global Student Services, overseeing operations for the world’s largest study abroad program that served 4,000 students annually.
Canny is a member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators; The Forum on Education Abroad; and AIEA: Association of International Education Administrators. He has presented at conferences regionally, nationally and internationally on various topics in international learning and has traveled broadly as part of various international education delegations and work teams.

Short description
Paula is from Neenah, Wisconsin and earned her B.A. in African American Studies and History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her M.Ed in Counseling and Personnel Services: College Student Personnel from the University of Maryland-College Park. During her time at UW-Madison, she spent an academic year studying abroad at the University of Warwick in England, and following her graduation, spent a year teaching English in South Korea. Her interests include traveling, reading, running, and watching movies. She joined the WORLD team in July of 2012 and is excited to help promote study abroad and international initiatives at Stetson!

Short description
Michael van Oppen is a Sophomore double-major in International Studies and Political Science, and an international student from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is founder and president of Stetson's chapter of Sigma Iota Rho, the International Studies Honor Society, and Stetson International, an organization with the objective of spreading awareness of international culture and academics on campus, as well as becoming a voice for international students at Stetson. Aside from his research at World: International Learning, he is a research assistant for faculty in Stetson's Political Science department.

Short description
Samantha Hamann is a Sophomore at Stetson University pursuing a Marketing major with a concentration in International Business and a minor in Spanish. She is the Co-President of American Marketing Association, a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, and the Athletics Marketing Department Intern for Stetson. Samantha was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa but currently resides in Florida. She has a passion for traveling the world, thanks to her parents that have taken her all over the globe. She is very excited to be applying to study abroad for Fall 2013 in Madrid, Spain.

Short description
Poorna Selvaraja is a Junior and a psychology major, and an international student from Malaysia. Apart from being a World peer advisor she is also a member of the Crew team and the Vice President of Stetson International Organization on campus. Poorna enjoys being involved and volunteering for causes, as well as reading and spending time with friends during her free time.

Short description
Matthew Ady is a Junior pursuing a Finance and Spanish double major. He is a member of the Stetson NCAA Men’s Cross Country team as well as a social fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi. Off campus, Matthew is also a recreation leader at the City of Kissimmee. Among other interests, Matthew is passionate about the outdoors and traveling. In the spring of 2012 he studied abroad through Stetson in Madrid, Spain. It was his experiences here that inspired him to come to work for WORLD: International Learning. Matthew is excited to be a part of this team and is looking to promote Stetson study abroad to fellow Hatters, both present and future!
