A central part of the Institute’s vision is to demonstrate sustainability as a core university value. Stetson is a signatory to the American College and University President’s Climate Commitment and students perform a greenhouse gas audit. Currently, four campus building have LEED certification and the new Rinker Welcome Center has been awarded Green Globes Certification for sustainability. The Institute Executive Director and Chair of the Environmental Sciences Department serve on the university’s Environmental Working Group which recommends sustainability policies to the administration.

An important goal of the Institute for 2017 is to offer a certificate program in Sustainable Management to train innovative, organizational leaders, who are interested in reducing operating costs and increasing revenues through green initiatives. Participants in this program will develop a broad understanding of why sustainability initiatives matter and gain technical skills to lead their organization toward becoming a sustainable enterprise.
