Welcome to Banner 8 Systems Training Site
This site is your complete information source for all SCT Banner related training at Stetson University.

Over the Winter Break, SCT Banner was upgraded.
While the change will not be obvious to most users, Banner 8/myStetson does offer significant improvements including distributed security capabilities, international character set capabilities, expanded field sizes, supplemental data engine for storing additional data via Banner forms, and several other enhancements.

A short video (2min) is now on line reviewing the basics.

Why are we upgrading to SCT Banner 8?

* Every 18-24 months, the vendor (SungardHE) releases a new major version to
deliver functional and technical improvements to Banner.

* To remain in compliance with Federal Regulations (e.g., Financial Aid, Tax Laws).

* To upgrade existing functionality (e.g., expanded field lengths, enhanced security
features, new character set to support internationalization).

Banner Forms Description
Forms, or Internet Native Banner (INB), is a non web-based delivery ofSCT Banner forms. Banner forms is where you enter and look up information. Training is required for access toBanner INB.

The system is highly integrated because all share a common database. This common database is shared by everyone who uses Banner, which makes it easy to maintain records on someone who applies to the University, becomes a student, graduates, and then becomes an alumnus.

How Banner 8 works
Technically, the data is not actually stored in Banner 8. Data is stored in a powerful database called Oracle. It would be difficult for a non-technical user to directly add or retrieve data from the actual database. The Banner 8 software acts as an interface to the Oracle database, making the job of adding or retrieving data much easier. Banner 8 provides the features and processing capabilities needed for student information (admissions, registration, etc.), alumni information (sponsor identification, campaign management, etc.), personnel information (employee benefits, salary/deduction history, etc.), and financial aid information (needs analysis, packaging, etc.).

Banner is made up of systems which in turn are made up modules, each of which handle a major function. For example, the Human resource modules cover functions such as Payroll, Benefits, Applicant Tracking, Position Control, and COBRA. Modules for the Alumni system include Campaigns, and Gift and Pledge Processing. The Student system modules include Admissions, Scheduling, Registration, and Academic History

Security
Though information on my.STETSON.edu is shared, many users are allowed only to look up (query) specific information.
