A finalist for the 1992 Sonrisa Vertical literary prize for erotic literature
with her first novel, Entre todas las mujeres, Isabel Franc initiated
an innovative, humorous, and best-selling trend in dyke drama with her trilogy
of "culebrones lesbicos" (lesbian soap-operas): Con pedigree
(1997; With Pedigree), Plumas de doble filo (1999; Double-Edged
Plumes), and La mansion de las tribadas (2003; The Lesbian Mansion),
all written under the pseudonym of Lola Van Guardia. The first of the trilogy
is now in its 4th edition, and has been translated to Italian and French,
while the other two are in their second edition. Isabel and Lola subsequently
"collaborated" on the novel No me llames carino (2004;
Don't Call me Sweetie), and Franc authored a lesbian sequel to Little
Women in 2004 entitled Las razones de Jo (Jo's Reasons). Franc
currently collaborates with articles and opinion pieces in lesbian journals,
including the Barcelona-based Sales? (Are you Out?).
