 Undergraduate Research and Creative Arts

Undergraduate research is fascinating when you're working on innovative approaches to scientific knowledge. The research represented in these videos is exemplary of the research done by undergraduate students at Stetson University. The videos highlight presentations at Undergraduate Scholarship Day (now known as SURCAS), senior projects in Digital Arts, and the research efforts of four seniors in the Biology program.

Students are encouraged to excel
Stetson University emphasizes individual achievement in research and creative work appropriate to each student's field of study. Students in the College of Arts & Sciences select and complete a Senior Project under the guidance of a faculty adviser. The College of Arts & Sciences provides a Dean's Fund for Undergraduate Research to support student projects. Another university program, the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), makes competitive awards to students who wish to pursue individual research or creative projects with a faculty member.

Stellar achievements are showcased
Outstanding undergraduate scholarship and creativity is regularly presented to the university community. An annual event, the Stetson Undergraduate Research and Creative Arts Symposium (SURCAS), showcases outstanding student work from all of the university's programs. SURCAS is a celebration of student achievement at Stetson University and is designed to foster an appreciation for academic excellence. The event is structured like an interdisciplinary professional conference. Students present their research, projects, portfolios and performances.

Creativity soars at Stetson
The student literary magazine, Touchstone, is another creative outlet at Stetson University, and, throughout each semester, students are involved in presentation of productions at Stover Theatre, music recitals in Elizabeth Hall auditorium, art shows at Duncan Gallery, readings at Poetry at an Uncouth Hour, or Cultural Credit events all across campus.
