Stetson University

QEP - the Quality Enhancement Plan

QEP Implementation Advisory Board

Committee Report

QEP Committee

Stetson University's pursuit of decennial reaffirmation of accreditation by SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) affords a concrete opportunity to select and advance immediately a high-priority project. As part of the reaffirmation process, the QEP Committee will define and develop a quality enhancement plan (QEP) for the university. This plan will involve all constituencies in its definition, implementation and evaluation. The QEP is a wonderful opportunity to take swift action to enhance the quality of the Stetson student learning experience.

According to SACS, the QEP:

  1. includes a broad-based institutional process identifying key issues emerging from institutional assessment,
  2. focuses on learning outcomes and/or the environment supporting student learning and accomplishing the mission of the institution,
  3. demonstrates institutional capability for the initiation, implementation, and completion of the QEP,
  4. includes broad-based involvement of institutional constituencies in the development and proposed implementation of the QEP, and
  5. identifies goals and a plan to assess their achievement.

(Principles of Accreditation, 2010)

Stetson University's goal is to define a theme for the QEP that:

  1. is likely to make a substantial difference in the Stetson student learning experience,
  2. will cultivate the involvement of the university community at large, and
  3. will be a point of national pride for Stetson to be known for such excellence.

While there are a number of possible topics that could be addressed, a repeated theme heard in initial campus conversations is the need to strengthen the transition of Stetson's undergraduates and graduates into the academic program and campus community and on into their lives and careers. Reflecting upon the Stetson University mission, the campus community strives to "foster in students the qualities of mind and heart that will prepare them to reach their full potential as informed citizens of local communities and the world."
