Memorial Tree Program

Honor A Loved One With A Memorial Tree

In many locations across campus at Stetson University, you will see trees accompanied by granite markers. For many years, these have been meaningful ways for individuals to honor or memorialize a loved one.

The trees are carefully chosen so that they are in keeping with the university's Native Plant Initiative. Popular species include live oaks and magnolia grandifloras, which both have long life expectancies and are very hearty. A dedicated, reclaimed-water irrigation line is often installed at the base of each tree.

The granite markers are black with four to five lines of engraving, and are placed at ground level by the tree. An example of a marker is pictured above.

Once the tree and marker are in place, many families choose to have them dedicated. The university Chaplain is often called upon to offer words of inspiration as family and friends gather for such an occasion.
