Study Abroad in Avignon

A United Nations World Heritage Site and European City of Culture for the Year 2000, Avignon is located three hours south of Paris and about one hour from the Mediterranean. This historic city was the seat of the papacy in the 14th century, and today is home to numerous museums and cultural sites. Known for its quaint charm, winding streets, cafes and markets, Avignon has for centuries been one of the artistic centers of France. The world famous Avignon Festival is a celebration of theatre, music and dance hosting artists from across the globe, and the renowned Cannes Film Festival is just a train ride away.

Paid excursions may include trips to Arles, Cannes, or Marseille, as well as outings to museums and cultural events in town. Excursions change each semester.

Students are encouraged to integrate their French language skills into day-to-day life while in Avignon. All participants live with French host families, allowing them to develop vernacular as well as academic second language skills.
