| The Purchase of the Acree-Powell House |
The late Dr. Pope Duncan, Stetson University faculty member, president, and chancellor, realized the importance of the mineral collection very early in his career. Almost immediately after becoming president, Duncan acquired the attractive red brick building on the corner of Michigan and Amelia, located on the southeast quadrant of Stetson's campus. This acquisition would enable the Gillespie Museum to expand its educational programs and provide school groups with a larger facility in which to learn and study geology and mineralogy. On November 19, 1982, the collection was moved to its new home and officially reopened to the public. |
