About the Museum

The Gillespie Museum is a fascinating rock and mineral museum offering students of all ages and the community many educational opportunities pertaining to earth and environmental science. The geologic collection of over 15,000 minerals, rocks, and fossils -one of the oldest and largest in the southeastern US- is exhibited throughout the building in various cabinets as well as hands-on, interactive displays.
Exhibits and displays include geology; native Florida ecosystems and plant landscapes; the Underground World of minerals, mining and fluorescent rocks; gemstones and birthstones - to name a few. The museum is sited in a Florida native plant landscape and the adjacent Rinker Environmental Learning Center (RELC) provides opportunities for community gardening, environmental programming, and outdoor activities.
